Two minutes is long enough for fatigue and focus to show up in your score. A steadier, more honest measure than a 30 or 60 second sprint.

The first thirty seconds of almost any typing test are the easiest. You are fresh, the text is new and your hands are full of energy. Two minutes is where concentration, rhythm and posture start to matter.
A short test measures how fast you can type for a moment. A two-minute test measures how fast you can type while also coping with small lapses in attention, tension in your hands and the occasional mistake. For most jobs that involve writing emails, notes or documents, the second number is the one that matches real work.
It is common to see a score drop by two to five words per minute compared with a one-minute test. That is not a failure; it is the cost of keeping the pace going, and the gap tends to narrow as your technique improves.
| Level | Net WPM | Typical user |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | Under 25 | Learning the layout |
| Average | 30-45 | Daily computer user |
| Proficient | 50-70 | Office and admin work |
| Fast | 75 and above | Writers, coders, transcribers |
For the industry-standard benchmark use the 1 Minute Typing Test. For a quick check try the 30 Second Typing Test, and if endurance is your goal, move on to the 5 Minute Typing Test.
Your net words per minute counts every correct character divided by five, over the full two minutes. Errors reduce the net score and also lower your accuracy percentage.
Slightly. The time is longer, so concentration and stamina matter more, and most people score a few words per minute lower than on a one-minute run.
