A fifteen second test is a snapshot. It is quick enough to repeat several times, which makes it perfect for warming up and for seeing how your speed changes from one attempt to the next.
Use it as a warm-up before a longer test, or as a game: try to beat your previous attempt. Because it takes so little time, it removes the pressure that makes people tense up in longer assessments.
In fifteen seconds, a single hesitation at the start or one mistyped word shifts the result noticeably. Treat any single score as one sample and average a few runs. The same person can reasonably see a spread of ten words per minute between attempts.
Step up to the 30 Second Typing Test, then the 1 Minute Typing Test for the standard benchmark. For a different kind of practice, play the Word Typing Game.
It gives a quick estimate of burst speed but is noisy. Average several attempts, or use a one-minute test for a more stable figure.
Correct characters are divided by five to get words, then scaled to a full minute. Fifteen seconds of typing is multiplied by four.
